1. DVDx 4.1 Beta 3.1 for Windows is out

Release 4.1.3.1 a.k.a. Beta 3.0, released the 20th this month, comes as usual with FREE converter (see complete changelog).

What's new in DVDx 4.1 Beta 3.1 ?

• Subtitles language can be changed when converting video
  
• Pictured-based subtitles (DVB/DVD/Blu-ray) are resized to video size
• Fix audio filtering with multi-audio output transcoding
  
• Fix burnt-in subtitles resizing and letterbox cropping
• Updated FFmpeg libs

DVDx 4 license is required to activate DVDx 4.1 Bluray/DVD Ripper and DVDx 4.0 Smart Edition.

3. About video players: SMPlayer, Starbuck's FreePlayer and VLC

VLC from VideoLAN is likely the best player out there, the most popular too.

However, for a few stuff, VLC has issues that other players, running MPlayer as backend, haven't.

The better two are Starbuck's FreePlayer and SMPlayer.

What FreePlayer and SMPlayer do and VLC doesn't ?

• support LossLessJpeg video playback
• support DTS HD audio playback
• support ADPCM IMA (QT) audio playback
• play nicely resized DVD/Blu-ray subtitles.
