Review : PYRO Drive Kit from ADS Technologies

ADS technologies makes a broad range of firewire devices. Amongst them is the PYRO drivekit.

In essence this is a enclosure that has a 5 1/4 inch drive bay and supplies power to, and converts any IDE device to a Firewire device. The PYRO device has a built in ATA-66 controller. Since Firewire supports storage devices directly there is no need for additional drivers. The Kit comes delivered with a configuration CD. You can update the PYRO firmware should the need arise , and set the drive mode. There is optimized firmware for Harddisks and CD ( both readers and Writers , DVD readers and some DVD writers work too ) device.

The box comes with a faceplate that simply snaps into place when you install a harddisk in the enclosure. ( It is not installed by default , apparently most people use it to attach optical media devices most ).
