The guides

Most popular: in the audio section, the Dolby Surround guide explains what is Dolby Surround, Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, what is Dolby Down-Mixing and helps you for VCD and SVCD authoring. And some example materials show the efficiency of down-mixing.

In DVD rip and copy, the DVDx guide and DVD Shrink guide are the most popular. If you want to rip a DVD movie to a (S)VCD or DivX, DVDx is the most popular all-in-one ripper. If you want to rip a DVD movie (usually DVD9) to a single-layer recordable DVD (DVD-/+R(W)), DVD Shrink will do the job. Both DVDx and DVD Shrink are freeware!

Jim's selection: in the editing section, the VirtualDub frame-server guide will initiate you at frame-serving, a technique to allow linking different incompatible software, making one to output in AVI format and the other to input this AVI stream in real time, without an intermediary big file. This technique is widely use to link video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere and Ulead Video Studio, to external MPEG encoders such as CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder) and TMPGEnc. It is also used to open DVD VOB files into Adobe Premiere.
