Q. Mac OS XDVDx 4.0 Smart Edition (4.0.1.0) doesn't istall in /Applications, what do I do ?

A. Choose installation in your home directory (and create an alias on your desktop).

Q. DVDx 4.0 activation fails (errors 'The Internet is not accessible' or 'Host www.labdv.com not found'), what do I do ?

A. First ensure that you've installed the latest DVDx 4.0 Smart Edition release from the download page, currently dvdx-4.0.1.0-win32.exe, and ensure that your computer is connected to the Internet.

Q. DVDx 4.0.0.6 Smart Edition for Windows fails to start QtNetwork4.dll is missing or cannot be found`, what do I do ?

A. This DLL is missing the first installer we've released as dvdx-4.0.0.6-win32.exe, sorry for that, please download the latest installer dvdx-4.0.1.0-win32.exe.

Q. After fresh (re)-installing DVDx 4.0, at start it says 'engines are not ready`, what do I do ?

A. This is due to a change of encoder engine locations, you just have to clear the settings and restart DVDx 4.0 (menu Options... Clear all settings...).

Q. DVDx 4.0 fails to load any DVD disc on error `Player engine couldn't get DVD title number`, what do I do ?

A. This is a known bug (MPlayer font cache update issue) fixed as of 4.0.0.5 release, please upgrade to 4.0.0.5 or later.

Q. DVDx 4.0 fails to load DVD disc, what do I do ?

A. The DVD drive may have too slow access for DVDx 4, you can try a few tips: load the DVD disc twice (to benefit from cache), increase player latency in preferences, set verbosity to Verbose (slowing down DVDx 4).

Unfortunately some new DVD discs with new protection schemes (ARccOS, RipGuard) can't be loaded directly in DVDx 4, please read the DVD and Bluray ripping helper.

Q. DVDx 4.0 encodes a complete DVD movie into a large video file (>700MB) and tells the file isn't a valid media file, what do I do ?

A. This is a known bug fixed as of 4.0.0.4 release, please upgrade to 4.0.0.4 or later.

Q. DVDx 4.0 fails to load a large video file (>700MB), what do I do ?

Q Mac OS XWhen I start DVDx 4.0 on a Mac OS X system, first it displays a small window saying `Player and encoder are NOT ready`, what do I do ?

A. You're running DVDx 4.0.0.5 and warning message tells also - FFmpeg is NOT ready - FFprobe is NOT ready - MEncoder is NOT ready - MPlayer is NOT ready - MediaInfo is ready. This has been identified as a packaging bug, some libraries are missing. The workaround is to install Apple® Xcode 3 (used to come with your Mac while Xcode 4 is not free). We're working on this and we'll upload a new release soon, you can check our progress from this VideoHelp forum topic. DVDx 4.0 (up to 4.0.0.5) works only on Mac OS X 10.6 - Snow Leopard, we're working to make new versions running on Mac OS X 10.5 - Leopard (this requires MPlayer and FFmpeg engines to run on Leopard).

Q. I have questions that are not answered in this f.a.q. , what do I do ?

A. First thing to do is read the README that comes with DVDx. It contains a lot of information that explains what you need and how to use DVDx. If that doesn't help then try searching the DVDx 4 forum as your question may have already been answered there.
